Swing Society

Swing Dancing,
Jazz and Tap
done in the old school way

We teach Lindy Hop, Jazz and Tap classes in Bulgaria. We get our inspiration from the old clips and the original swing, jazz and tap dancers.

Who We Are

About the School

Swing Society is several things in one — a swing dance school for people from 10 to 100 years old, for all levels, with exceptionally experienced teachers who travel all over the world and bring authentic stories, experience, and inspiration back to Bulgaria.

Swing Society is also an underground culture, but one that is open to everyone. Some people just dance with us once a week after work, some bring their children and dance with them, and some come to meet new people. With the most passionate and advanced students, we travel to dozens of countries around the world, often participating in competitions or learning from some of the creators of the genre.

At the beginning, we had no performances — only dancing and lessons. We danced in other schools, but we realized that for us it wasn't enough just to dance; we wanted to learn more about the culture, the stage, and performance. So we created Swing Society. In recent years, we have been receiving more and more invitations to perform at private parties, corporate events, and festivals in Bulgaria and abroad. Although the swing scene in Bulgaria is still niche, it continues to grow, and that makes us very happy because we believe we are an essential part of that development.

Our cause and mission are to preserve and spread authentic swing and jazz culture in Bulgaria, following the American model and tradition. Swing was born as an urban culture of young and modern people. We believe that jazz cultivates and refines taste, and that good music has no age limit. That is why we continue to invest more and more in our school and in the experiences we share with everyone.

Our dream is for swing to be taught in Bulgarian schools.

Our Dances

Lindy Hop dancers
Lindy Hop

The Original Swing Dance · 1930s Harlem

Lindy Hop is the mother of all swing dances — an Afro-American vernacular art form born on the dance floors of Harlem during the Jazz Age. It blends African rhythms, European partner dance traditions, and the spontaneous genius of improvisation.

We teach it with attention to its roots: musicality, connection, playfulness, and the deep groove that comes from truly listening to jazz. From your first swing-out to airsteps, we'll take you there step by step.

Jazz

Vernacular Solo Jazz · Movement & Expression

Vernacular Jazz is the solo side of the swing world — a rich vocabulary of steps born in Harlem's ballrooms and juke joints. The Charleston, the Shim Sham, the Big Apple: these dances are the living language of jazz music expressed through the body.

Solo jazz classes sharpen your musicality, timing, and personal style. Whether you're a Lindy Hopper looking to deepen your groove or a complete beginner, jazz movement will transform the way you feel the music.

Tap

Rhythm & Percussion · Your Feet as Instruments

Tap is the art of making music with your feet. Rooted in African percussive traditions and the blues, tap dancers like Bill "Bojangles" Robinson and the Nicholas Brothers turned the stage into a drum kit and made history.

Our classes focus on the improvisational, jazz-driven approach — not Broadway choreography, but the intimate, conversational tap that truly swings. You'll develop timing, musicality, and a vocabulary of rhythm that transforms the way you hear music.

A passionate swing dancer who discovered jazz movement as a natural extension of rhythm and musicality, Miro brings deep groove and playfulness to every class.

Deni

Deni

Tap & Jazz

Sofia

Deni is a teacher with experience and passion for tap dance and solo jazz. She enjoys classic choreographies and shares the belief that the most beautiful things are hidden in history and tradition. That is why her solo jazz classes draw inspiration from the great dancers of the 1930s and 1940s. She has attended tap dance classes by Chester Whitmore, Daniel Larsson, Josette Wiggan, and Thomas Wadelton in Herräng, but her true inspiration comes from that circle of tap dancers — the "dinosaurs" of tap dancing.
